the year we discovered our hearts are made of wildflower seeds
that sprout when smashed in the dirt.
the year we found that many wildflowers are edible -
we survived off dandelion and dead nettle salads,
we drank wild chamomile tea,
we rejoiced in the fruits of our eternal detritus.

Solitude.
Rejoice! despite the fact this world will hurt you
Rejoice! despite the fact this world will kill you
Rejoice! despite the fact this world will tear you to shreds
Rejoice! because you’re trying your best.

today I am a sad bird made of purple and blue feathers and there is a knot in my belly and it keeps threatening to come up into my throat and it makes me think that I should just stay in bed today but that’s not a choice this time, that’s not an option today - game face, teeth clenched and damnit I won’t throw up everywhere - I wish there was a fast forward thru the next four hours button.

I peel back.
I run fingers down
fine line cracks
dig nails and spread
wide.
Shake out the dust
shake out the rust
the parts that don’t fit,
your gauzy memory of the past
20 years,
too chipped, too ripped
too dry-rotted.
Time unbecomes
the inside.
I heal back,
and the leftover dust
settles.
